Nahariya's cultural centre, Heichal HaTarbut, opened in 1987 and is run as the Northern Center for the Performing Arts by Moshe Aharon Culture. Its programme covers theatre, music, cinema and dance, with subscription concerts by the Netanya Kibbutz Chamber Orchestra, children's plays, stand-up and shows in several languages, and a changing exhibition each month. The coastal town in western Galilee was founded in 1934 as a farming settlement and turned early to tourism and food production instead.
