Виенски валсов оркестър

Waltzes, polkas and the Strauss family form the working repertory of this Viennese ensemble, one of several that carry the city's new-year manner to audiences at home and on tour. Its programmes set the dances beside familiar classical staples — Eine kleine Nachtmusik and its like — in evenings pitched as much at visitors to Vienna as at the Viennese themselves. Music of this sort demands a particular elasticity of rhythm, and it is a specialist trade.
