Catania's Giardino Bellini, named after Vincenzo Bellini, who was born in the city, developed from a private garden into a public park through successive nineteenth-century acquisitions and landscaping campaigns. Work led by Ignazio Landolina and later Filadelfo Fichera connected the original garden with neighbouring grounds through paths, steps and bridges. The completed park opened on 6 January 1883. Its avenues include busts of Italian and Catanian historical figures, while the principal entrance from Via Etnea was added in 1932. After restoration, the gardens reopened on 23 September 2010 with a Carabinieri band concert in the music pavilion.
