Виенски симфоничен оркестър

Bruckner's Ninth Symphony was first heard from this orchestra in 1903, three years after its founding as the Wiener Concertverein, under Ferdinand Löwe, who had conducted its opening concert in 1900. Ravel's Concerto for the Left Hand followed in 1932, played by Paul Wittgenstein, who had commissioned it. The orchestra is Vienna's concert orchestra in the fullest sense: it plays the city's subscription series at the Konzerthaus and the Musikverein, and since the years after the Second World War it has been the orchestra of the Bregenz Festival, where it plays opera on the lake through the summer. Furtwängler, Karajan, Sawallisch and Giulini are among those who have held its chief conductorship; Andrés Orozco-Estrada took the post in 2021.
