Held every year in Klagenfurt am Woerthersee since 2002, the festival is built around five composers who worked by the lake — Mahler, Brahms, Hugo Wolf, Berg and Webern — and sets their music beside commissions and premieres of new Austrian work, plus revivals of rarities by Suk, Gliere, Lalo and Ysaye. The Austrian Gustav Mahler Association runs it; the violinist Elena Denisova is intendant and the pianist and conductor Alexei Kornienko artistic director.
