Between twenty and twenty-four Carles Marín worked with no teacher at all, a period he counts as an important one. Before it came Amparo Fandos at the Torrent conservatory from the age of ten, Joaquín Soriano's class in Madrid, then Ramzi Yassa in Paris and Aquiles Delle Vigne in Rotterdam, with Joaquín Achúcarro and Claudio Martínez Mehner shaping much of his thinking. The Valencian pianist has taken the Huygens Prize in Amsterdam, the soloist prize at the Salzburg Mozarteum, the Scarlatti competition in Austria and the Concours Flame in Paris, and has played at the Concertgebouw, the Salle Cortot, the Palau de la Música Catalana, the Fundación Juan March. Transcription and paraphrase draw him — his paraphrase on the Ride of the Valkyries is among them — and the disc Piano Fire appeared on the Nîbius label. He teaches in Madrid and directs Xàbia's Moon International Piano Festival. He has also played at De Doelen in Rotterdam, and his chamber partners include Joan Enric Lluna, Lluis Claret and Asier Polo. The Valkyrie paraphrase was published by Boileau.
