Биография
Winning the Aureliano Pertile competition in 1983 opened Carlo Guelfi's international career. Born in Rome and taught by his uncle, the baritone Renato Guelfi, he became a specialist of the dramatic Verdi parts — Macbeth, Rigoletto, Nabucco, Amonasro, Iago and the title role in Falstaff, with Puccini's Scarpia alongside them — at La Scala, the Vienna State Opera, the Metropolitan Opera and the Salzburg Festival, and under Claudio Abbado, Leonard Bernstein, Zubin Mehta, Antonio Pappano and Christian Thielemann. He has made recordings for EMI, Decca and RAI Trade, on disc and on film. He has sung at the Arena di Verona as well.
