Емилия Ботева

Emilia Boteva is a Canadian-Bulgarian mezzo-soprano. Educated at the Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music in Sofia and making her professional debut at the Sofia National Opera, she sang Azucena, Ulrica, Amneris and Eboli at the Sofia National Opera, and won a prize at the Svetoslav Obretenov national competition and a place in the final at Toulouse. At Pacific Opera Victoria, she was the Kostelnička in 2017 and returned in 2020 for the Canadian première of Jonathan Dove's Flight; she has also appeared with the Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton companies and the Opéra de Québec, and made her Toronto Symphony debut as Albine in Thaïs under Andrew Davis. She also teaches. Maddalena and Fenena belong to her Sofia roles as well, and she has sung in Spain and Italy. Her concert repertoire takes in Mahler symphonies and Verdi's Requiem, and the Thaïs performances under Davis were recorded by Chandos.
