Born near Paris in 1959 into a musical family, Éric Serra played guitar before turning to bass, keyboards, percussion and electronics, and worked in French rock and popular music, with Jacques Higelin among others, before cinema claimed him. The partnership with Luc Besson began with the short film L’Avant-dernier and continued with Le Dernier Combat, Subway, The Big Blue, Nikita, Léon, The Fifth Element, The Messenger, Lucy and Anna. The Big Blue brought him a César in 1989. He has written for other directors and released albums under his own name. He wrote the score for the Bond film GoldenEye, and Atlantis belongs to the Besson films as well. Under his own name he released the album RXRA in 1998.
