Montreal-born and Montreal-trained, Françoise de Clossey took her concert diploma at the university there with Natalie Pepin, and studied contemporary music with Lorraine Vaillancourt, founder of the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne. A prizewinner in Quebec and Canadian competitions, she has given premieres of music by Henryk Górecki and performed North American premieres of works by Salvatore Sciarrino and Sofia Gubaidulina, within a repertoire that runs from the European classics to composers of her own continent. She plays regularly with the trumpeter Mauro Maur, in programmes reaching from concert repertoire to film music. She was born in 1974. Her playing has taken her to Africa and Asia as well as Europe and the Americas, and to festivals including Menton and the Carinthian Summer, while Gilberto Gil and the Paquito D'Rivera Orchestra are among her collaborators. The film-music programmes with Maur are built on Morricone, Piero Piccioni and Nino Rota.
