In 2000, at twenty-nine, Guy Braunstein became a first concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic, and he kept the chair for thirteen years. Born in Tel Aviv in 1971, he had studied with Chaim Taub and then in New York with Glenn Dicterow and Pinchas Zukerman, and began performing at a young age. Since leaving Berlin in 2013 he has gone back to solo work and chamber music, conducts European orchestras, directs festivals and teaches. He taught at the Berlin University of the Arts from 2003 to 2007, and Daniel Barenboim and Martha Argerich are among the musicians he has played with. He writes arrangements and works of his own as well, among them the Rusalka Rhapsody and the Abbey Road Concerto for violin and orchestra.
