Brasília heard Isaac Villaroya's orchestral piece It Is, Isn't It on 1 August 2023, played by the Orquestra Sinfônica do Teatro Nacional Claudio Santoro at the Tonal Composers Festival. Born in 1998 and originally from Cagayan de Oro in the Philippines and brought to the United States as a child, he studied at the University of Missouri–Kansas City Conservatory with Paul Rudy, Yotam Haber and Chen Yi. He writes with repeating patterns, rhythmic canons, harmonic cycles and room for improvisation, and his music has also been taken up by the Austin Symphony Orchestra and by chamber ensembles.
