Returning to Verdi seven years apart, Maria Stoyanova sang two performances of La traviata in Rousse in 2006 and then the State Opera Rousse's open-air Rigoletto at the Rythalle in Solothurn in June 2013. She was born in Vratsa in 1973 and studied opera singing at the V. Vodenicharski school of music there before graduating from the State Academy of Music in Sofia. A competition win in 1999 took her to the Boris Christoff academy in Rome. She joined the Rousse opera as a soloist in 1998 and has toured with the company in Italy, Spain, Egypt, Greece and Cyprus; Azucena, Ulrica, Amneris, Maddalena and Emilia in Otello are among her parts.
