Sicilian by birth and by training, Marzia Catania studied piano and classical dance before beginning to sing at seventeen, and graduated from the Istituto Musicale Vincenzo Bellini in her native Catania in the class of Pina Sofia. Two master's degrees followed — musical disciplines at the Francesco Cilea Conservatory in Reggio Calabria, singing at the Bellini — together with work under Elio Battaglia, at the Salzburg Mozarteum among other places, and courses with Raina Kabaivanska, Christa Ludwig, Katia Ricciarelli and Luciana Serra. She reached the final of the Iris Adami Corradetti competition and took third prize in the Puccini section of the S. Giacomantonio. Her roles include Gilda, Adina, Serpina, Pamina, Micaëla, Frasquita, Rosina, Berta, Musetta, Zerlina, Norina and Suor Genovieffa, beside a concert repertoire of Mozart's Requiem, Rossini's Petite Messe solennelle and Vivaldi's Gloria.
