Within two years of arriving at Juilliard, Natalie Lewis had won first prize in Houston Grand Opera's Eleanor McCollum competition, taken one of the six Laffont awards at the Metropolitan Opera and made her Carnegie Hall debut — all in 2023. Born in 1998, she studied first at the University of Massachusetts Amherst with William Hite, then at Juilliard from 2021 to 2023, and moved from there into the opera studio of the Bayerische Staatsoper, joining the company's ensemble in 2025. Munich has given her Erda in Das Rheingold, Mary in Der fliegende Holländer, Emilia in Otello, the Third Lady, Annina, Zita in Gianni Schicchi and Lucretia in The Rape of Lucretia — Wagner to Britten before thirty. At Operalia in 2025 she took second prize and the Birgit Nilsson Prize. Her concert work runs to Mahler's Second Symphony, Verdi's Requiem and Elgar's The Dream of Gerontius.
