When State Opera Rousse gave Rigoletto in Sofia on 31 October 2014, Scilla Cristiano took her place in a company that included Alexander Baranov, Andreana Nikolova, Kamen Tchanev and Vladimir Popov — one of the Verdi evenings the Rousse ensemble carried to the capital. Born in Bologna, Scilla Cristiano studied piano and took her singing diploma at the city's Conservatorio G. B. Martini, then worked with Gloria Banditelli, William Matteuzzi, Ildebrando D'Arcangelo, Claudio Desderi and Nazzareno Antinori, and passed through the Accademia Rossiniana in Pesaro and the academy of the Festival Pucciniano at Torre del Lago. Gilda in Rigoletto stands among the roles she has returned to most often, beside Adina, Lucia, Violetta, Liu, Musetta, Norina, Oscar, Zerlina, Micaela, Pamina, Rosina and Nannetta; she sang Gilda at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna in 2016 under Renato Palumbo, and again at the Auditorio Nacional de Musica in Madrid. She has appeared at the Teatro Regio di Parma, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Glinka Capella in St Petersburg, the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing and Suntory Hall in Tokyo.
