Six years in the children's chorus of La Scala, as a boy soprano, began Stefano di Peppo's life in the theatre; the adult voice proved to be a bass-baritone, schooled at the Civica Scuola di Musica in Milan and privately, and he made an early debut as Escamillo at Opera Holland Park in London. The buffo repertoire has been his ground since — Leporello and, in time, Don Giovanni himself, Figaro and both Bartolos, Mustafà, Dulcamara, Don Magnifico, Schaunard, Gianni Schicchi, Sulpice and the Sacristan in Tosca. He has appeared at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, the Israeli Opera, the Royal Albert Hall, the Teatro Colón in Bogotá and with many American companies, and coaches singers in Italian diction.
