Биография
Stephen Costello graduated from the Academy of Vocal Arts in his native Philadelphia in 2007, where he studied with Bill Schuman, and within two years held the Richard Tucker Award; the Beverly Sills Artist Award followed in 2010, the year he created Greenhorn in the world premiere of Jake Heggie's Moby-Dick at Dallas Opera. His is the lyric tenor line — Rodolfo, Alfredo, Edgardo, Nemorino, Arturo, Roméo, Des Grieux, Werther, Faust — sung at the Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden, the Vienna State Opera, the Paris Opera, the Bavarian State Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera, Santa Fe and the Teatro Real, with Don José marking the move toward heavier ground. His Metropolitan Opera debut came in 2007, in the performance that opened the season, and among his appearances there was Lord Percy in Anna Bolena opposite Anna Netrebko. The Duke of Mantua has been a recurring role, sung in Dresden, at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and with the Canadian Opera Company, while Pinkerton took him to the New National Theatre in Tokyo; his first competition prize had come from the George London Foundation in 2006. His Cassio in Verdi's Otello under Riccardo Muti at Salzburg was issued on video in 2010.
