Sue Patchell's documented work in Bulgaria runs through the Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra, with which she appeared as a soloist in 2008 in concerts at Rheinbach and Kerkrade, on programmes shared with Won Jang, Ernesto Grisales, Wasgen Gazarian and Elena Tchavdarova-Issa. The American soprano made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera as Isolde under James Levine and returned there for Senta, the Empress in Die Frau ohne Schatten, Cassandra in Les Troyens, Salome, Leonore and Emilia Marty. Isolde took her to La Monnaie, the Danish Royal Opera in Copenhagen, Trieste, Dortmund, Wiesbaden, Weimar, Mannheim, the Gran Teatre del Liceu and, in 2004, to the Rotterdam festival under Valery Gergiev. At the Vienna State Opera she sang Elisabeth, Eva, the Marschallin, Elsa, Salome and Chrysothemis; she was Brünnhilde in Siegfried at Nuremberg and Freihild in the Italian premiere of Strauss's Guntram at the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania. Her concert repertoire holds the Four Last Songs, the Wesendonck Lieder and the Liebestod.
