Биография
The name on the birth certificate was Sengstschmid. Wolfgang David was born in St Pölten, in Lower Austria, and works from Vienna, and he has appeared as soloist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna Radio Symphony, the Tonkünstler Orchestra, the Slovak Radio Symphony, the Berne Symphony Orchestra, the Johannesburg Philharmonic and the New York Virtuosi. A long partnership with the American composer and pianist David Gompper accounts for much of his recorded work — Gompper's violin concerto among it, and a series of discs of his chamber music made across the 2000s — while Viva concertante, recorded in 2005–06, paired him with the violinist Elisabeth Kropfitsch. Since 2016 he has returned as soloist to the Rousse Philharmonic Orchestra, appearing with it in Ruse and in Sofia, in concerts shared with Maria Tsvetkova-Madzharova. Born in 1971, he entered the preparatory violin class at the Vienna music university at eight, studied for several years with Rainer Küchl, the concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic, and then with Igor Ozim in Cologne and Yfrah Neaman at the Guildhall School in London, taking prizes at the Joseph Joachim competition and at competitions in Cologne and Pretoria. Besides Gompper he has worked with Rainer Bischof, Jeremy Dale Roberts, Noel Zahler and John Allemeier, several of whom wrote for him, and Naxos issued a disc with the Royal Philharmonic in April 2011. He plays a Carlo Bergonzi violin of 1724 lent to him by the Austrian National Bank.
