Molenie

Molenie is an oratorio on a sacred subject by the Bulgarian composer Nayden Andreev; it was performed in Sofia in 2003 with singers of the national concert institutions and returned to Bulgarian programmes repeatedly in the following decade. Andreev, who died at sixty-eight, worked across popular song and larger vocal forms, and the oratorio stands as the piece his colleagues associated most closely with him — it was sung at his funeral service in Sofia. Its title translates as supplication, and its material is devotional throughout.
