Pictures of Home

Pictures of Home comes from Machine Head, recorded in Montreux in December 1971 and released in March 1972. It opens with a drum figure from Ian Paice alone, gives Roger Glover one of the few extended bass solos in the band's catalogue, and sets a lyric about isolation in the mountains against the fastest playing on the album. The song was rarely performed live during the 1970s and entered the regular concert repertoire only decades later, when the band began revisiting the album in full.
