André Hajdu wrote this concerto for piano and orchestra in 1990, giving it a title that looks at the closing century from inside it. Born in Budapest in 1932, he studied with Kodály and Ferenc Szabó, collected Gypsy folk music in Hungary, left after the 1956 uprising to work with Milhaud and Messiaen in Paris, and settled in Israel in 1966, where he taught at Bar-Ilan University and received the Israel Prize in 1997. The recording was made with the pianist Omer Arieli and the Sofia Festival Orchestra.
