Rhapsody no. 3 dates from 2004 and is the third in a series Angel Kotev has been adding to since 1997: the first was subtitled Bulgaro, the second In 7, and a fourth, Exotic, followed in 2023. The rhapsodies draw on Bulgarian dance metres and have been the most widely travelled part of his catalogue; one of them drew an audience of several thousand at a summer festival in the United States. Kotev studied with Alexander Raychev and has written across symphonic, ballet, film and electroacoustic genres.
