Turtle: The Incredible Journey, directed by Nick Stringer and first shown at the Toronto festival in September 2009, follows a female loggerhead from a Florida beach across the North Atlantic to Africa and back to the shore where she hatched. Henning Lohner wrote the score. With Miranda Richardson narrating over long wordless stretches and no human characters on screen, the music has to supply scale, distance and the passing of years; Lohner works with orchestral texture, electronics and slow harmonic movement rather than themes attached to a protagonist. Concert suites drawn from the score circulate under varying titles.
