The last of the three string works Mozart wrote in Salzburg in the first months of 1772, K. 136–138, when he was sixteen and about to leave for Milan to compose Lucio Silla. Like its companions it has three movements and no minuet. The F major is the lightest of the set, its slow movement scored so that the first violins carry an almost operatic line over a walking bass.
