I Love You, China

I Love You, China was written in 1979 by Zheng Qiufeng to words by Qu Cong for the film Overseas Compatriots, where the heroine sings it at a conservatory entrance examination; Ye Peiying recorded the version heard on the soundtrack. The song appeared at the beginning of China's reform period and addresses the country from the position of someone returning to it, which fixed its meaning for audiences abroad. It left the film almost immediately and has since been sung by several generations of Chinese singers at official and popular occasions alike.
