Orpheus

John Robertson completed Orpheus, his opus 64, in 2015, and the first performance followed on 26 February 2016. Born in New Zealand and long resident in Ontario, Robertson began composing seriously only after a career outside music and has since produced symphonies, concertos and stage works catalogued by opus number in the older manner. Orpheus runs about an hour in six scenes for soprano, baritone, male chorus and orchestra, on a libretto drawn from Shakespeare and assembled by the composer. He later made a half-hour orchestral suite from it, opus 64 bis.
