The A minor violin concerto most often played under Vivaldi's name is the sixth of L'estro armonico, opus 3, printed in Amsterdam in 1711 and dedicated to Ferdinando de' Medici. RV 356 is a single-soloist concerto inside a collection otherwise full of double and quadruple ones, and its compact three movements made it a standard teaching piece: generations of violin students have met Vivaldi through it. Bach knew the opus 3 concertos well enough to transcribe several of them for keyboard, which is how they survived the eclipse of Vivaldi's reputation.
