Piano Concerto no. 5

Alexander Yosifov studied composition with Pancho Vladigerov and opera and symphonic conducting with Konstantin Iliev at the Bulgarian State Conservatory, graduating in 1966, and taught at the National Academy of Music from 2000 as professor. His catalogue runs to well over a thousand items and includes five concertos for piano and orchestra, of which this is the last. The concerto belongs to the same body of work as his stage music and his large output of piano-duo pieces, several of which took prizes in Tokyo in the late 1990s.
