The Dark Knight Rises (Batman)

Zimmer scored Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, sharing the first two films with James Newton Howard and writing the third, The Dark Knight Rises, alone in 2012. The music is built from very little: a two-note rising figure for Batman, and a chant of deshi basara for the villain Bane, assembled from thousands of voices recorded by members of the public who submitted them online. Zimmer has described the approach as deliberately anti-thematic, refusing the heroic march the genre expects. Ostinato, low strings and a steadily accelerating pulse carry the weight that melody would normally take.
