Bucheon

Bucheon joined UNESCO's Creative Cities Network in the field of Literature in 2017. Following rapid industrialisation, the city developed cultural programmes that connect reading, education and social inclusion. Initiatives described by UNESCO include mobile libraries, literary lectures, book-delivery services for older residents and people with disabilities, and libraries serving immigrants and foreign workers. Support for local bookshops also links public-library acquisitions with the city's bookselling community. Grants connecting literature with comics and animation extend this approach into other creative industries. Bucheon's literary profile thus rests not only on cultural events, but also on efforts to make books and participation more widely accessible.
