Duisburg

Duisburg's Landschaftspark Nord preserves a former ironworks as a place for public use. Production at the Meiderich works ended on 4 April 1985, and a new approach to the site took shape in 1989. Peter Latz and his partners developed a landscape design that retained industrial structures while introducing gardens, water features and routes through the grounds. Spontaneous vegetation forms part of the setting alongside deliberately planted areas. The former blast furnace offers an elevated viewpoint over this combination. The park makes industrial change visible by allowing the machinery and buildings of the earlier economy to remain within a landscape used in new ways.
