Musicals paid for this house. It opened in 1995 as a purpose-built home for "Les Misérables", which ran in Duisburg from January 1996 until November 1999; when the producing company collapsed, a municipal property firm bought the 1,524-seat building. Its most useful years followed. The Duisburger Philharmoniker made it their interim home until the rebuilt Mercatorhalle opened in April 2007, so a theatre designed for a single long run served for a time as the city's concert hall. Show and touring productions occupy it now, after a period as a vaccination centre and a technical overhaul that returned it to regular use in 2022.
