Oberursel put spring water to every possible use — including flight. The Urselbach tumbling off the Taunus powered a medieval necklace of mills that made the town an early industrial address: paper, copper and spinning works line the historic mill trail, and their twentieth-century heir wrote aviation history — the Oberursel motor works built the rotary engines that powered Fokker's fighters, and the site still turns precision aero-engines under Rolls-Royce colours, a century of propulsion from one brook's momentum.
The old town survived to charm: around the stepped marketplace and the fountain, half-timbered lanes climb toward St Ursula's Gothic tower, and the town's beloved Brunnenfest — the fountain festival each June — crowns a queen and fills the Altstadt in celebration of the waters that started everything. The Vortaunusmuseum keeps mills, guilds and summer-resort memories; villa quarters from Frankfurt's belle époque commuters shade the avenues.
The mountain completes the town: Oberursel is the classic gateway to the Feldberg, the Taunus's rooftop — tram and trails departing for the heights, the Romans' reconstructed Saalburg fort on the ridge nearby, mountain-bike descents and winter sledging returning to the town's cafés. Frankfurt glitters twenty minutes away; the beech forest begins at the last garden gate. Water into wheels, wheels into wings, festivals at the source: Oberursel's currents all run clear.
