Schieder See is a young lake doing an old landscape's work. Created in the 1970s by damming the Emmer for flood control in the Lippe hill country, the reservoir promptly became the region's summer address: a long water mirror between wooded slopes, ringed by a level promenade circuit that fills with strollers and skaters, pedalos and passenger launch on the water, campground and lakeside cafés keeping season — Ostwestfalen's modest riviera, framed by the Teutoburg and Weser hills' green shoulders.
The lake belongs to Schieder-Schwalenberg — which the archive should record as the responsible municipality — and each of the twin town's halves contributes its character. Schieder offers the Baroque counterpoint above the water: the summer palace of the Lippe princes with its axial garden restored to courtly parade, venue for concerts and garden days. Schwalenberg, over the ridge, is the painters' town: a half-timbered hill townscape so picturesque that artists' colonies claimed it a century ago, its painted gables, historic Rathaus and studio traditions still drawing easels.
Around lake and towns, the Lippisches Bergland offers pilgrim chapels, kestrel skies and the Emmer's windings toward the Weser at Bad Pyrmont's spa neighbourhood. For the archive: Schieder See is a lake and leisure venue, not a settlement — the events address is Schieder-Schwalenberg, palace above, painters behind, water in the middle.
