The Ahmed Adnan Saygun Arts Center in İzmir opened on 27 December 2008 as a project of the metropolitan municipality. Architect Tevfik Tozkoparan transformed the site of a former trolleybus depot and maintenance workshop into an arts complex covering approximately 30,000 square metres. Named after the composer Ahmed Adnan Saygun, it hosts the İzmir State Symphony Orchestra's weekly concerts and productions by the İzmir State Opera and Ballet. The centre also accommodates the International İzmir Festival and the İzmir European Jazz Festival. Visiting performers have included İdil Biret, Yo-Yo Ma and Maxim Vengerov, while exhibitions form a further strand of its public programme.
