Alumni Hall at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis was dedicated in October 1991. It combines an indoor sports arena with a venue for assemblies, lectures and performances. The arena accommodates Navy basketball and wrestling, and its basketball court bears the name of coach Dave Smalley. The building also serves the academy’s wider educational and cultural life: speakers have included former presidents George H. W. Bush and Jimmy Carter, Margaret Thatcher and Condoleezza Rice. Concert appearances by Faith Hill, Vince Gill and Katy Perry illustrate the hall’s use for entertainment as well as academy and athletic events.
