Baoji Grand Theatre

One of the wave of civic performing-arts buildings raised across provincial China in recent years, the Baoji Grand Theatre serves a city in the Wei river valley of western Shaanxi — an industrial place known to archaeologists for the Zhou bronzes found in its fields. Halls like it have redrawn the map of touring in China: orchestras on New Year circuits now reach cities that had no professional stage at all a generation ago.
