The Johannes-Brahms-Saal is the principal upper-level auditorium of Karlsruhe’s Stadthalle at the Festplatz. The present Stadthalle was built between 1979 and 1985 to plans by Herman Rotermund, retaining the entrance colonnade of the earlier 1915 building. The Brahms hall accommodates approximately 1,800 seated spectators and forms part of a complex also containing the Weinbrenner and Thoma halls, conference rooms and foyers. A later comprehensive refurbishment renewed its acoustic, lighting and technical systems while retaining the building’s main structure. The hall serves concerts as well as conference and public-event programmes.
