Bulgarian Voices Angelite is a women's vocal ensemble created by manager Tanja Andreeva following her work with the Bulgarian State Television Choir. Its singers draw on regional Bulgarian vocal traditions, performing arrangements by composers including Philip Koutev, Stefan Kanev and Nikolai Kauffmann. The ensemble has also developed collaborations with the Moscow Art Trio, the Tuvan group Huun-Huur-Tu and Sarband. These projects place Bulgarian choral singing alongside jazz, throat singing and other musical practices. Its catalogue on JARO includes Fly, Fly My Sadness, Mountain Tale, Angelina and Heritage. Katya Barulova has directed the choir in concerts and recording projects, including work involving Japanese composer Yasunori Mitsuda. Tanya Andreeva, who had run the Bulgarian television choir, set up this private women's ensemble in Sofia in 1992; it has carried the name Angelite since 1995. The singing runs from archaic village song to newly written pieces built on the same material. Much of the recorded work is collaboration: Fly, Fly My Sadness with the Tuvan group Huun-Huur-Tu and Mikhail Alperin in 1995, and a piece Phil Collins wrote for the choir for Brother Bear.
