Santiago's congress and exhibition centre stands in San Lázaro, on the eastern edge of the city and well away from the old town, and covers 15,000 square metres over two floors, with 4,250 of exhibition space indoors and 3,500 more outside. Its two auditoria open into one another: Sala Santiago seats 1,580, Sala Compostela 520, and joined they take 2,100 on a stage of 300 square metres. Medical and scientific congresses fill most of the calendar; the same rooms take galas, comedy, concerts and touring opera.
