Radio broadcasting in Kosovo goes back to 1945 in Prizren; television followed on 29 November 1975 as Radio Television of Pristina, which Serbian authorities seized in July 1990 in the middle of a news bulletin and held until 1999. The service was relaunched on 19 September 1999, much of the dismissed staff re-employed, and now runs four television channels — one for minority languages, one for news, one for arts and documentary — and two radio stations, financed from the state budget. It carries the New Year's concerts of the country's philharmonic.
