Dordrecht's theatre dates from 1864 and has been in municipal ownership since 1913. The present house, at the junction of the Singel and the Sint-Jorisweg, is a neo-renaissance rijksmonument whose interior was recast in 1938 by Sybold van Ravesteyn in marble and wood; neglect and successive alterations then damaged it badly. A thorough restoration and extension by the Dordrecht architects Kees Rouw and Bertus de Kock began in 1993. The main hall seats 755, with a smaller multifunctional room and three foyers alongside.
