Built in 1961 to designs by Bernard Bijvoet and Gerard Holt, the Tilburg theatre was listed as a national monument in 2015 for its wave-formed reconstruction-era architecture. Its main auditorium holds up to 850. A concert hall by Jo Coenen was added on the same block in 1996 and extended in 2005 for the Fontys art academy next door, so that spoken theatre, orchestral concerts and a flat-floor studio now share one address on the Schouwburgring in the city centre. The house traded for years as Theaters Tilburg and is called Schouwburg & Concertzaal Tilburg today.
