Theater Markant in Uden opened in 1996. A major expansion developed between 2009 and 2013 added a multipurpose events hall while reworking the connection between the theatre and the market square. The new hall echoes the original building's structure and shares flexible backstage facilities with it, allowing the two spaces to be used simultaneously or together. A central entrance links the halls with the foyer and restaurant. Designed for audiences of up to 1,100, the added space accommodates pop concerts, exhibitions, carnival celebrations and dinner events, broadening the activities possible alongside the original theatre programme. Herman Hertzberger designed the theatre that the municipality of Uden opened on the Markt in 1996. The auditorium seats 685 across two balconies and has an orchestra pit, with a proscenium sixteen metres wide behind a stage tower of twenty-two metres. Hertzberger set a sloping glazed front on the foyer and made it large enough to take receptions, conferences and informal performances; he reworked it in 2000. The building was extended in 2013 and now operates as Markant Theater Maashorst.
