North of Haifa's port, in the belt of townships known as the Krayot, Kiryat Haim was settled from 1933 and named after Haim Arlosoroff; it lies today within Haifa's municipal boundaries. Its theatre is a local hall of the kind such neighbourhoods built for their own use — orchestral and chamber concerts, drama, community occasions — serving an audience that does not always travel into the city centre for its music.
