The Thracia Symphony Orchestra was formed for the Thracia Summer Music Festival in Plovdiv, where it gave the opening and closing symphonic concerts of the August editions in the late 1990s. The festival's own archived site records it playing at the DNA Concert Hall in 1998 under Nayden Todorov with the violinist Arusjak Baltajan and the cellist Adrian Richter, again in 1998 under Vesselin Baytchev with the soprano Anna Philipova, and in 2000 with Mario Hossen as soloist. It functioned as the festival's resident orchestra rather than as a year-round ensemble.
