Wichita Grand Opera

Opera in Wichita is sustained by a company that mounts staged productions in a city with no purpose-built opera house, working in whatever rooms suit the piece — including, on occasion, the historic Sedgwick County Courthouse. Recent seasons have ranged from La bohème and Rusalka to La Cenerentola, Hansel and Gretel and Bernstein's Candide, a repertory that keeps the Italian and Czech staples in view while allowing for lighter and more portable work. The company also holds open auditions and runs education programmes across the region.
