Evgenia Staneva

A violinist in the orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala, Evgenia Staneva came up through the Youth Orchestra Plovdiv, playing its Bulgarian concerts and a German tour in the early 1990s before making Milan her professional base. Her work there runs from the opera and ballet seasons of the house to its symphonic programmes, and she takes part in the chamber series the orchestra's players give — Bach, Vivaldi and Handel in Baroque programmes, Mozart and Brahms quintets in another. She trained at the Dobrin Petkov school in Plovdiv and graduated with honours in Vienna in 1998, continuing in Sion and in Italy with Tibor Varga and Francesco De Angelis among her teachers. That same year she became concertmaster of the academy orchestra of La Scala under Riccardo Muti, began working regularly with the house and its philharmonic in 2003 and won a permanent position in 2007. The Cameristi della Scala belong to her chamber work.
